A new year, a new focus
So it’s the new year and here I am in a new province and new surroundings and a new beginning. An excellent way to start things off exactly the way I would like them to go. I know that might not exactly be the case, but here’s to hoping! I put out the big feelers here in Kelowna last week and have gotten excellent response. I’m thinking sooner than expected I will be swamped with new work. Kind of exciting, really.
Then there are my personal new year’s resolutions. I seem to be my own biggest guinea pig - trying one cleanse or recipe or supplement after another. This has led me to the conclusion that I go to extremes with these things - on one extreme cleanse to next go back to sugar and dairy (and all things tasty, and Mike would say). It doesn’t get me any farther than if I take my own advice, implement the baby steps, and gradually get closer to my ideal diet and lifestyle. So I’m back on goats cheese instead of cow, spelt instead of wheat, and honey instead of sugar. These are changes I’m willing to stick to for the long term. I’m sure my body will adjust better to the gradual, than the extreme.
Think about your own resolutions, and if you tend not to stick to them, is it because the change is too extreme? Find the baby step version of this change, gradually increase it, and by the end of the year you will be where your resolution would have had you in January, but you’ve actually stuck it out for the whole year! I’m doing this with food, and we’ve also joined a running clinic to do the Vancouver 10k Sun Run in April. Baby steps in running might allow me to keep it up for more than 2 months at a time. Wish me luck!
